UV-VIS spectrometers for system integration

Choosing the right UV-VIS spectrometer for your application

UV-VIS spectrometers are crucial tools for analyzing samples in the ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared spectrum (typically 200-1100 nm). These instruments utilize a light source and a spectrometer to measure the absorbance or emission of light by a sample. When selecting a UV-VIS spectrometer, it is essential to consider the specific application requirements, such as wavelength range, resolution, sensitivity and stray light performance.

The resolution of the spectrometer determines its ability to distinguish between closely spaced spectral features, which is vital for accurate analysis. Sensitivity and stray light performance is also critical, as it affects the spectrometer’s ability to detect low concentrations of analytes in a large dynamic range.

Our UV-VIS spectrometers are designed to provide high broadband sensitivity and resolution, making them ideal for diverse applications, including absorbance and fluorescence spectroscopy. They feature our unique UV-VIS transmission gratings with flat spectral response and high dispersion enabling seamless integration into OEM systems. Furthermore, our compact design and robust construction make them suitable for industrial environments.

UV-VIS spectrometers

Unique high-dispersion and broadband gratings for UV-VIS spectrometers

Our UV-VIS spectrometers are more compact than any other UV-VIS spectrometer on the market due to our in-house manufactured broadband transmission gratings.

Our gratings provide almost flat spectral response over the entire UV-VIS range, enabled by optimized groove profiles, a thin optical path, and a high refractive index contrast. Furthermore, the gratings have a high groove density which lead to extremely compact modules. The inherent nature of fused silica ensures a low-loss from 190 to 1100 nm and environmentally stable operation.

We design our visible light spectrometers to perfectly match and supplement the performance of our gratings, but we also supply gratings for use in your own UV-VIS spectrometer design.

UV-VIS spectrometer FAQ

General questions about UV-VIS spectrometers

A UV-VIS spectrometer is an instrument used to measure the intensity of light from the ultraviolet to the visible range and sometimes also into the near infrared  range of the electromagnetic spectrum. It analyzes how light interacts with a sample, providing valuable data for various applications.

Please note, that in some contexts a UV-VIS spectrometer is sometimes called a UV spectrophotometer or UV detector.

UV-VIS spectrometers utilize a diffraction grating to disperse the spectrum across an array of photo-detectors

UV-VIS spectrometers are versatile tools used in many different applications. Some of the more common applications are as UV-detector in HPLC systems and thin film measurements of coatings.

When selecting a UV-VIS spectrometer, consider your requirements to wavelength range, resolution, sensitivity, and signal-to-noise ratio as key factors. Also, footprint, environmental robustness and cost should be considered.
