LIBS spectrometers
for system integration
Choosing the right LIBS spectrometer for your application
Instruments for Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) consist of a laser source and a LIBS spectrometer. Depending on your application, there are many factors to consider when choosing the right LIBS spectrometer.
Generally, LIBS spectrometers must resolve sharp spectral peaks corresponding to atomic transitions occurring in the plasma. The required spectral range depends on the specific atomic elements in the sample that need to be analyzed. Additionally, since the plasma only exists for a few microseconds after the laser pulse is fired, the spectrometer must be fast, sensitive, and capable of accurately synchronizing with the laser pulses.
To support this, our LIBS spectrometers offer the highest sensitivity on the market, combined with high resolution and accurate triggering. Our spectrometers are designed for use with various detectors, tailored to LIBS system needs, and our compact DISB electronics allow precise time gating. For applications down to 178 nm, Ibsen Photonics’ LIBS spectrometers furthermore include valves for purgin the spectrometer with an inert gas.

Highly efficient, broadband gratings for LIBS spectrometers
The high sensitivity of our LIBS spectrometers is obtained through in-house manufactured transmission gratings.
Our gratings provide unparalleled high broadband efficiency, enabled by optimized groove profiles, a thin optical path, and a high refractive index contrast. The inherent nature of fused silica ensures our gratings are environmentally stable while working in transmission, providing angle insensitivity and vibrational stability.
We design our LIBS spectrometers to perfectly match and supplement the performance of our gratings, but we also supply gratings for use in your own LIBS spectrometer design.
